I love lyric videos, but most of the music I listen to is too niche to have them, so I decided

I would choose a song from my library that I thought had potential for an interesting and

innovative lyric video.

Sketch Exploration

After making a list of about 20 potential song ideas and concepts for them, I sketched out the most promising ideas before deciding on the song Coming Up Roses by Eliza Rickman.

The song is romantic yet sorrowful hinting at a relationship gone bad and every time I listen to it I get the same essence that I get from historical oil paintings, so I made that my main design focus.

Storyboarding

I formatted and printed out the lyrics which I used to start planning out the art I would use

and how I would reveal and transition the lyrics.

I searched for the best most fitting paintings and did some deeper research into the origins and meanings. Most of these paintings have meanings that relate to the subject matter of the song.

Painting Style

Not many changes were made to the storyboard as I worked through the animation process, but there were many technical and skill problems I had to research and fix.
